Westchester Assembly Members Issue Recommendations Regarding School Foundation Aid

Westchester Assemblymembers Amy Paulin (D-88), Gary Pretlow (D-89) Nader Sayegh (D-90), Steve Otis (D-91), MaryJane Shimsky (D-92), Chris Burdick (D-93), and Dana Levenberg (D-95) announce that they have issued a letter to the Rockefeller Institute for consideration in the Institute’s Foundation Aid Study.

Through this year’s New York State Budget the Rockefeller Institute was directed to conduct a study to assess the State’s Foundation Aid education funding formula and discuss potential modifications to the formula.

As part of the study, researchers at the Rockefeller Institute have been collecting feedback from various stakeholders. The letter outlines a set of ten recommendations that the Assembly Members feel are essential to create a funding formula which brings strong educational outcomes for all of Westchester’s children.

For the 2023-2024 Edgemont School District Operating budget, the District received $3,541,218 in foundation state aid, which represented 5.10% of the total $69,374,373 budget. For 2024-2025 Edgemont School District Operating budget, the District received $4,924,264 in foundation state aid, which represented 6.83% of the total $72,118,709 budget. Any future reduction in state aid would need to be made up by taxpayers, alternative revenue sources, or be offset by a reduction of programs or services.
