Update on School Board Candidate Forum - 5/8 @ 7:30PM

The community is invited to an open forum on Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 pm in the LGI at Edgemont High School to hear from the six candidates for the three seats that are becoming available on the Edgemont Board of Education. The candidates will be running in the school district election scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, and will be elected to three-year terms starting in July.

This is a contested election. Accordingly, on Tuesday, April 29, the School Board Nominating Committee invited all six candidates to participate, and offered to make arrangements for an outside independent moderator to run the forum. On Thursday, May 1, three of the candidates declined the invitation to participate. As a result, the League of Women Voters — with whom we had been making arrangements to moderate the forum — stated that they could not provide a moderator, since the League’s policy is to only moderate events attended by all candidates. On Sunday, May 4, the candidates who had rejected the invitation sent an email to retract their previous rejection.

On Monday, May 5, we reached out to inquire whether the League of Women Voters could still provide a moderator for the forum. Unfortunately, the moderators from the League of Women Voters are now completely booked for the next two weeks. Therefore, pursuant to the SBNC Rules and Procedures, the SBNC Chair will moderate the forum. Additionally, we are working on having the forum recorded.

The community is invited to send suggested questions to the SBNC by Tuesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. via this submission form. The SBNC Chair will select the questions and share them with all six candidates at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8.

We hope to see you there!

SBNC Chair
