ECC to Replace Damaged Little Free Library on Longview Drive & Why Your Membership Matters

Dear Edgemont Neighbors,

I write with an update on the Edgemont Community Council’s most recent neighborhood partnership.

As you may know, the Little Free Library on Longview Drive was damaged recently after a car accident. Determined to replace the beloved fixture, the ECC contacted Taylor Airo, the Edgemont resident who led the effort to install the library four years ago. ECC funds purchased the new Little Library, and the ECC is now coordinating with residents and town staff to restore this cherished neighborhood landmark.

This is just one example of how the ECC increases community engagement, deepens neighborhood pride, and strengthens our shared sense of belonging. We’re proud to step in when needed to support community improvements, organize events, amplify resident voices, or advocate on behalf of Edgemont-related issues.

But none of this happens without your support.

That’s why, now through June 30, we’re encouraging all Edgemont households to become dues-paying members of the ECC for the 2024-2025 year. Help us finish the year on a high note! Not sure if you’re already a member? Check here. Your annual membership sustains our mission and facilitates the work that keeps Edgemont strong, safe, and connected.

Here’s a snapshot of some recent ECC accomplishments:

Traffic & Pedestrian Safety Advocacy
We’ve helped secure grant funding and supported town and county actions to address long-standing safety concerns, including speed-limit reductions and critical infrastructure improvements throughout Edgemont.

Community Celebrations & Traditions
We sponsor and host Lunar New Year festivities, the Menorah Lighting, E-Day, Edgemont’s Halloween Parade, the Christmas Tree Lighting, Caroling by Crane’s Pond, the MLK Day Walk, LGBTQ+ Families and Allies Meet Ups, and numerous service opportunities throughout the year. These inclusive community events celebrate Edgemont’s diversity and bring neighbors together.

School Board Nominating Committee (SBNC)
As part of our longstanding commitment to maintaining Edgemont’s educational excellence, the ECC sponsors the SBNC process by funding community-wide mailings, nominating and recruiting committee members, and managing any necessary neighborhood elections for seats on the SBNC.

Edgemont Newcomers Club
The ECC sponsors the Edgemont Newcomers Club, which welcomes new residents to Edgemont with regular events, local tips, and social connections that ease the transition into our community.

Neighborhood Initiatives
Whether it’s installing Little Libraries, replacing the Edgemont 1998-2000 Football Champions sign on Central Park Avenue, beautifying Crane’s Pond, or advising residents on local projects, the ECC facilitates grassroots improvements that benefit us all.

If you’re new to the community or if your household hasn’t yet renewed its ECC membership, now is the time. Annual dues begin at just $40 per household, and every dollar supports initiatives that directly serve our neighborhood.

Thank you for being part of what makes Edgemont such a special place to live.

Let’s continue building a stronger, more connected Edgemont!

Thanks, as always, for your support,
