The Edgemont Community Council Annual Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 29th in the Seely Place Elementary School APR (51 Seely Place, Scarsdale, NY 10583). Light refreshments will be served at 7:15PM, with the meeting beginning at 8PM.
This year’s guest speaker is political consultant Doug Forand. As one of Red Horse Strategy’s founding partners, Doug brings over three decades of campaign management, strategy, and messaging experience to RHS’s clients. Prior to forming Red Horse, he served as Executive Director of the NYS Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, returning Democrats to the State Senate majority for the first time in 40 years, as well as Assistant State Comptroller under Alan Hevesi. Doug also worked extensively in progressive non-profit politics as an organizer for the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), National Field Director for the Citizens Trade Campaign, and running the national field program for The Arc of the United States.
Over the years, Doug has worked with many of Westchester’s leading elected officials, including Congressman George Latimer; County Executive Ken Jenkins; Mayors Mike Spano, Justin Brasch, and Shawyn Patterson-Howard; Senators Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Shelley Mayer; Assemblymembers Amy Paulin and MaryJane Shimsky; District Attorneys Mimi Rocah and Susan Cacace, and many others.
Doug will share a behind-the-scenes look at what it is really like to work in politics and public affairs, drawing on decades of experience managing campaigns, shaping strategy, and advising some of New York’s most prominent elected officials. He will share stories from the campaign trail, reflections on how modern campaigns are run, and insights into the messaging, organizing, and decision-making that often happen far from public view. It promises to be a fascinating and engaging conversation for anyone interested in politics, government, advocacy, or simply how things really work behind the scenes.
