New Town of Greenburgh Emergency Alert System – Sign Up Today

Dear Edgemont Neighbors,

The Town of Greenburgh has announced an expansion of its CivicReady AlertSense emergency notification system, which will now include Department of Public Works (DPW) emergency alerts in addition to Police Department alerts.

This system is designed to provide timely notifications about significant water main breaks, widespread water outages, boil water advisories, public safety emergencies, evacuations, and major roadway closures.

Following the water outages and communication challenges our community has experienced this year, the Edgemont Community Council (ECC) welcomes this important step toward improving emergency communications.

I strongly encourage all Edgemont households to register for these alerts, even if you believe your contact information is already on file with the Town.

Residents can sign up in several ways:

  • Online: Register for Greenburgh Emergency Alerts. We particularly encourage online registration, where you can provide your home address to receive more targeted, location-based emergency notifications affecting your neighborhood.
  • DPW Emergency Alerts: Text DPW911 to 38276 for significant water outages and other infrastructure emergencies.
  • Police Emergency Alerts: Text Police911 to 38276 for public safety emergencies.
  • General Town Updates: Text Greenburgh311 to 38276 for non-emergency Town announcements.
  • Mobile App: Download the CivicReady myAlerts app.

Notifications can be delivered by text message, email, phone call, or mobile app, depending on your preferences. Alerts can also be received in multiple languages.

While some landline and business contact information has already been incorporated into the system, registering your mobile number and address is the best way to help ensure that you receive timely alerts relevant to your location.

The Town has indicated that emergency notification groups will be reserved for urgent matters, with routine Town announcements distributed separately.

While this expansion is a positive development, the ECC will continue advocating for proactive, coordinated, and transparent emergency communications from the Town. Having the right technology in place is important, but its effectiveness ultimately depends on timely and consistent use.

The ECC will also continue sharing important emergency information with our community through our existing communication channels.

Please take a few moments to register and encourage your neighbors to do the same.

Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, Edgemont Community Council
