This will mark our 74th year of service to the Edgemont community. On the agenda is the President’s Report, the Treasurer’s Annual Report, the approval of minutes from the 73nd Annual Meeting, the election of Officers and Directors of the Council for 2021-2022, the presentation of the Silver Bowl award for service to our community, and a Guest Speaker.
This year the ECC will bestow its Silver Bowl award for distinguished community service on Betsy and Tom McCormack. They moved to Edgemont in 1997 and raised five boys here, all going through the Edgemont schools, with the youngest graduating Edgemont High School this year. Both Betsy and Tom are prominent volunteers in the Edgemont and greater local communities. Betsy, a past PTA volunteer and current co-President of the PTSA, has also served as board member for the Scarsdale Teen Center, Greenburgh Nature Center, and Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains. Currently, she is a board member of the Edgemont Scholarship Fund and the Old Edgemont Association. Betsy is an avid Mah Jongg player and has taught many Edgemont residents how to play the game. Tom has coached numerous football, baseball and basketball teams throughout the years. Additionally, he has served on the Edgemont School Board, first as board member, then Vice President and later President. He is also a member of Edgemont Village Exploratory Committee and has supported multiple community organizations such as the Edgemont Scholarship Council, Edgemont School Foundation, and the Greenburgh Nature Center.
This year’s guest speaker is Jordan Copeland. He is a local historian and former public defender and fifth grade teacher. He is a trustee of the Scarsdale Historical Society and has given several historical presentations about our area. Inspired by the protests of the killing of George Floyd, he conducted extensive original research into the history and experiences of African American people in Scarsdale and their continued underrepresentation in the community.
