EDGEMONT FAMILIES MARSHAL SUPPORT FOR BRODY FAMILY

Edgemont friends and neighbors of Ellen Brody, 49, the Edgemont mother of three who perished in the tragic Metro North accident Tuesday evening, last night launched an effort to provide meals for the Brody family in the days and weeks ahead, while school officials ramped up efforts to offer counseling and support to students affected by the tragedy.

Email chains are circulating today throughout the Edgemont community asking for donations to an account set up at the Scarsdale caterer Standing Room Only  which has agreed to provide the family meal following tomorrow’s graveside service after the funeral, as well as buffets for the larger shivas Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone who wishes to contribute can call SRO at 914 472-3002 and ask for Rae. SRO will accept a credit card number over the phone.

The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Chabad of the Rivertowns, at 303 Broadway, in Dobbs Ferry.

Thereafter, working with Edgemont Cares, an arm of the Edgemont Community Council that mobilizes to assist Edgemont families in need, the family’s friends and neighbors will be working on plans for continued home delivery of meals while the family grieves.

ECC president Bob Bernstein said today that “because we are such a small close-knit community, Edgemont will respond to this tragedy with the same measure of compassion, love and support that we give to all Edgemont families in need.” He added, however, that “at the same time we must also respect the privacy and security of the Brody family, and insist that others do likewise.”

Anyone wishing to work with Edgemont Cares on this effort is encouraged to write to edgemontcares@gmail.com.

Meanwhile, school superintendent Victoria Kniewel and high school principal Devan Ganeshananthan issued the following statement this morning:

” Dear Edgemont Families,

“As you may know, Ellen Brody, mother of Alexa (Grade 11), Julia (EHS ’13) and Danielle (EHS ’10), died in the shocking accident on the Metro North Harlem line yesterday.  Although information regarding the accident was still being confirmed earlier in the day, we made faculty and staff aware of the unconfirmed situation so they could provide direction to our students as needed.  Guidance counselors, school psychologists, and administrators provided support for a number of students and parents today, and the guidance suite will be open and available for students to visit as we continue to support them through this horrific tragedy.  We were only able to speak with close family friends of the Brody family this evening, and they mentioned that information on how to help the family during this time will be forthcoming.
Tomorrow morning, first-period teachers, guidance counselors, school psychologists, and administrators will be talking with all of our students about how to process the tragedy, and they will be discussing the resources we have available to support students in situations like this one.  A special emphasis will be placed on supporting eleventh-grade students.  The following resource can be used to guide your discussions at home:
Please feel free to contact any of our guidance counselors, school psychologists, or administrators if you have any questions.  We offer our deepest condolences to the Brody family.  We will work together with the Edgemont community to support them and each other through this challenging time.
Sincerely,
Victoria Kniewel and Devan Ganeshananthan”
