A Wild 2026 Year Ahead at the Nature Center at Greenburgh

Dear Edgemont Neighbors,

As we kick off the new year, I wanted to share an exciting look at what’s ahead at one of our community’s great assets: the Nature Center at Greenburgh. Right in the heart of Edgemont, the Nature Center has a full calendar of programs and events planned for 2026 for residents of all ages.

For families and young children, the year includes favorites like the Maple Sugar Party on March 1, an Earth Day Celebration this April, the Run Wild Obstacle Course in June, Live Butterfly Tours in July and August, summer movie nights, an overnight campout, and seasonal “Back to Nature” offerings.

Preschool-aged children can enjoy Mother Nature’s Storytime beginning January 7, while elementary school students can participate in day camps on school holidays, winter and spring break camps, and a full summer camp program (now K-5th grade) running from late June through August.

Middle and high school students have opportunities such as the Junior Naturalist Program, Nature Lab during school breaks, the Yonkers Urban Greenspace Fellowship for high schoolers, and a range of volunteering and senior internship opportunities. The Nature Center is also partnering with One River Hartsdale for a 12-week fusion of animal education and art exploration.

There is also plenty for adults, including a Winter Seed Sowing Workshop on January 10, animal husbandry volunteering, docent opportunities, summer butterfly guides, and internships for college students focused on ecology and conservation.

In addition, Nature Center members can look forward to monthly special programs throughout the year, from Valentine’s animal programs and goat walks to birdwatching events, butterfly releases, and more.

The Edgemont Community Council is also looking forward to partnering once again with the Nature Center this April for our annual Edgemont Day of Service. Each year, Edgemont volunteers come together at the Nature Center to support hands-on projects that help care for the grounds, trails, and habitats that make this space such a special resource for our community. More details about service activities and registration will be shared as the date approaches.

To stay connected beyond this snapshot, I strongly encourage you to sign up for Wild Week Ahead under “Nature News”, the Nature Center’s weekly Thursday email highlighting upcoming programs, events, and opportunities happening right in your backyard.

You can learn more, register for programs, and sign up for email updates at www.naturecentergb.org.

Thank you to the Nature Center at Greenburgh for all they do to enrich our community, and I hope many of you will take advantage of these wonderful opportunities in the year ahead.

Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, The Edgemont Community Council
