The upcoming Greenville Fire District (GFD) commissioner election on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, will be contested, with two candidates seeking one open seat on the Board of Fire Commissioners. Incumbent David Stern will not seek re-election. The candidates vying for this seat are Dino Rentoulis and Lou Russo.
To provide residents the opportunity to learn more about both candidates, the Edgemont Community Council (ECC) will host a Candidate Forum on Monday, December 1, at 6:30 P.M. in the Edgemont High School LGI.
Residents are invited to submit questions to be considered for the forum by completing this brief form.
Each candidate has also provided a short biography for the community’s review:
Dino Rentoulis
My name is Constantinos (Dino) Rentoulis, and I’m a life-long resident of the Edgemont community. I attended Greenville Elementary all the way through Edgemont Jr/Sr High and currently have 3 children in Greenville. My parents and sister still reside in Edgemont. My wife and I are very active in the Edgemont community with coaching, sports and the PTA.I have a background in mechanical engineering, and worked for a research and development firm in pharmaceuticals. Later on, I expanded the family’s business in real estate, operating and managing multi-family and commercial properties throughout Westchester County, which allowed me to work directly with various fire departments to understand and assess fire safety prevention and evolving safety codes.
Served as a board member for my church for twelve years, eleven of which I was the director of the Building and Grounds Committee, responsible for repairs, budgeting and cost allocation for various projects as well as fundraising for day-to-day operations.
We are blessed to live in such a wonderful, tightknit community and this would be a great opportunity to give back by offering my time and any skills for the Greenville Fire District and our Edgemont friends, families and neighbors. I understand that the role of Fire Commissioner is to transparently exhibit fiduciary responsibilities for every taxpaying household as well as provide the necessary tools for our brave men and women to respond to emergencies. If granted the opportunity, I will carry out this task to the best of my abilities so that our firefighters and first responders maintain an exceptional level of preparedness and professionalism to ensure the safety of our residents and the general public.
Lou Russo
Lou Russo is a CPA, auditor, and financial professional with nearly 40 years of firefighting and leadership experience. A dedicated volunteer firefighter since joining Greenville in 1985, Lou has been elected by his peers and trusted to serve as Deputy Chief, President, Lieutenant, and Treasurer across two fire departments, and he remains a top volunteer responder today in Edgemont. His financial work for government entities such as the Town of Greenburgh, Scarsdale Schools, and Dobbs Ferry Hospital gives him the fiscal expertise to safeguard taxpayers’ interests and strengthen district financial competency. Lou’s commitment to the fire district and Edgemont spans four generations of firefighters. Lou, his three children, and his father are all Edgemont graduates. Additionally, both sets of his grandparents were longtime Edgemont residents active in civic affairs, including Town government and the Greenville Fire District.
As Fire Commissioner, Lou will prioritize long-term planning for future generations, ensure tax dollars fund frontline responders and lifesaving equipment, remove unnecessary barriers to encourage continued community volunteerism, and enforce fair overtime practices. You can have confidence that Lou will champion greater transparency, demand accountability, and align training, technology, and resources to keep our community safe and resilient.
A vote for Lou Russo is a vote for proven fire department and financial experience, community-first leadership, and proactive community involvement—not a rubber stamp for the tax increases that have led to nearly a 50% rise in Fire District tax spending since 2000. Unfortunately, that spending is accelerating, with the next 50% increase likely coming in 3-4 years unless something changes. Every one of your hard-earned tax dollars will be spent wisely to build a stronger, safer Edgemont under Lou’s leadership, and Lou will make sure you know where your tax dollars are going!
In summary, Lou will prioritize adequate staffing for your safety and make better use of paid and volunteer staff. Lou will bring more transparency and accountability to the district. Lou will prioritize excellent service that is fiscally responsible! Lou will make a difference for you, for the Greenville Fire District, and for the entire Edgemont community.
This Fire District election will take place on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, between 4:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. at the Greenville Fire District Headquarters, 711 Central Avenue, Scarsdale (across from Frank & Joe’s Deli). No absentee ballots are available.
Voters will have the opportunity to decide who will serve a five-year term as commissioner, commencing on January 1, 2026, and ending on December 31, 2030. Mark your calendars today.
All duly registered residents of the Greenville Fire District as of November 17, 2025 shall be eligible to vote.
Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, The Edgemont Community Council
