The Greenburgh Town Board, at its July 10th, 2024 meeting, adopted the 2024 Town of Greenburgh Capital Budget which included funds related to the ECC’s ongoing public safety advocacy efforts and the ECC’s public safety priorities identified in the ECC’s October 2023 Traffic and Safety Report.
In the 2024 Capital Budget, $650,000 was included to install a ‘smart’ traffic light at the intersection of Ardsley Road and Fort Hill Road. The installation of this ‘smart’ traffic light was a key priority that came out of the ECC’s comprehensive traffic and pedestrian safety community engagement process last year.
Additionally, $600,000 was included in the 2024 Capital Budget to install new sidewalks in the Town, including one on Fort Hill Road between Longview Drive and Underhill Road. The installation of a sidewalk on Fort Hill Road in phases, with the first phase being the stretch between Longview Drive and Underhill Road, was a key priority that emerged from the ECC’s comprehensive traffic and pedestrian safety community engagement process last year.
Since the ECC began its traffic and pedestrian safety initiative in 2022, the ECC has successfully:
– Advocated for a new school zone to be established on Old Army Road between Central Park Avenue and White Oak Lane.
– Advocated, in partnership with Assemblymember Amy Paulin, for a revised “school timing plan” for the traffic signal at the intersection of Central Avenue and Underhill Road/Old Army Road.
– Advocated for $1.5 Million to be included in the 2023 Westchester County Capital Budget including $500,000 for a study to evaluate the safety of the existing crosswalks at Edgemont Road and Lynwood Road and the viability and safety of adding new crosswalks at the Ardsley Road/Old Army intersection; $500,000 for an Ardsley Road and Edgemont Road drainage study; and $500,000 for a study to evaluate the safety of the Ardsley Road/Seely Place crossing and the viability and safety of adding a new crosswalk at Ardsley Road/Greenville Church.
– Advocated for new surveying to be conducted as a step towards potential future sidewalk and transportation infrastructure projects for Mt. Joy Avenue (Old Army to Fort Hill Road) and Fort Hill Road (Underhill to Longview).
– Assisted in the submission of a TAP Grant which resulted in $3,859,742 being awarded to the Town of Greenburgh by New York State for pedestrian improvements along Old Army Road.
– Advocated to Greenburgh Police Department for the successful installation of new parking and traffic signage throughout Edgemont.
– Advocated for $650,000 to be included in the 2024 Town of Greenburgh Capital Budget for the installation of a “smart” traffic light at the intersection of Ardsley Road and Fort Hill Road.
– Advocated for money to be included in the 2024 Town of Greenburgh Capital Budget for the installation of a sidewalk on Fort Hill Road between Longview Drive and Underhill Road.
The Edgemont Community Council thanks Greenburgh Commissioner of Community Development & Conservation Garrett Duquesne, Greenburgh Commissioner of Public Works Richard Fon, Commanding Officer of the Greenburgh Police Department Traffic and Safety Unit Sgt.
