The Edgemont Community Council award for distinguished community service has been awarded almost every year since 1950. The ECC’s Silver Bowl Committee this year recommended that we present this year’s Silver Bowl to Scarsdale Farm Road resident Alec Clarke for his 27+ years of service to the Edgemont Community.
Alec moved to Edgemont in 1996. He and his wife Audrey Prashker have raised their three daughters in Edgemont, Alison (EHS ’14), Lauren (EHS ’20), and Betsy (EHS ’20).
Alec’s involvement in Edgemont started through the Edgemont Recreation Corporation, where he spent ten years coaching baseball, soccer and basketball. Additionally, he spent eight years coaching travel soccer and basketball teams. From there, much of Alec’s impact on Edgemont has been in the area of Technology where he served six years on the Edgemont Junior/Senior High School technology committee and two years on the Edgemont School District 1-to-1 Chromebook Committee, and he created the PTA/PTSA student directory ten years ago, which he continues to maintain to this day.
Alec also served five years as a Director of the Edgemont Community Council from 2011-2016, including a year as Recording Secretary from 2013-2014.
Alec was first elected to the Board of Education in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019. While on the school board, he served as vice president from 2018-2019, and two years as president from 2019-2021. During his time as president, he assisted the District in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, helped guide the successful passage of a $54 million bond, and worked on the renegotiation of the teachers’ contract. Also while on the school board, Alec managed the transition to streaming board meetings during COVID and was an active participant in the search to find a new superintendent when Dr. Kniewel announced her retirement.
Not one to just fade away, Alec is currently a member of the School Board Nominating Committee.
