Edgemont Cares, an arm of the Edgemont Community Council, today asked parents, faculty, staff and students in the Edgemont School District to meet in Manhattan this Saturday at 12:15 p.m. to join in the search for missing Edgemont junior Christine (Ji Woo) Kang.
Volunteers are being asked to meet at Grand Central, near the information booth in the Main Hall (by the big clock) where organizers will have flyers, tape and routes for distribution. The effort will be led by Edgemont resident Aubrey Graf, who can be reached at edgemontcares@gmail.com.
On Friday, Christine (Ji-Woo) Kang’s family has recently requested that postering efforts be focused on Fort Lee, NJ, and the bus terminal area by the George Washington bridge. Cars are being organized. The group will NOT be leaving from the Hartsdale station tomorrow. If you would like to join the Friday group, please e-mail jeehyepark2000@yahoo.com to get logistical info.
Ms. Kang, 16, left home last Friday evening, after an argument with a parent, was seen taking the 10:18 train from Scarsdale to Grand Central, was seen leaving the terminal building on Lexington Avenue at 43d Street at around 11 p.m., and was last seen walking south on Lexington below 42d Street. She has not been seen since.
Greenburgh police, who are working with the NYPD, the MTA police and other law enforcement agencies, have asked volunteers to aid in the search. Ms. Kang is considered an “endangered juvenile” because she left home without a coat and without wearing warm clothes.
At the request this morning of Police Chief Chris McNerney, Bob Bernstein, ECC president, spoke with police at Grand Central and with officials at the Station Master’s Office and confirmed that no permit is required for volunteers to distribute flyers in Grand Central for missing persons. Flyers may be distributed in the terminal itself and at the entrance to gates, but cannot be distributed inside the gates or on railroad platforms or on stairs or stairwells. Nor can flyers be taped to the terminal walls. Those distributing in the terminal itself should also avoid blocking entrances and exits.
Greenburgh police will provide organizers with the recommended routes for distribution of the flyers based on the latest information they have been able to develop.
Edgemont Cares was formed by the ECC in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy to help Edgemont residents in need.
