Dr. Edward Kennedy, the principal of Seely Place Elementary School for more than 30 years, has decided to retire, and will formally submit his resignation at tonight’s meeting of the Edgemont Board of Education.
The School Board, which meets at 8:15 p.m. in the Large Group Instruction Room or LGI at the Edgemont Junior Senior High School, will receive Dr. Kennedy’s resignation at the beginning of tonight’s meeting and residents are encouraged to attend.
Dr. Kennedy first notified the School Board two weeks ago that he intended to resign. Parents and schoolchildren at Seely were notified last Tuesday, and a search will now commence for his successor.
Because of the role Dr. Kennedy played in educating thousands of children over the years, he is expected to receive many tributes and honors before his official farewell, at the end of the school year.
The Edgemont Community Council, which learned of his retirement at its meeting last Monday, voted unanimously to recognize Dr. Kennedy at its annual meeting on April 20 at the Greenville School. Other Edgemont organizations, including the PTSA and the Edgemont School Foundation are expected to do likewise in the weeks and months ahead.
