EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR EDGEMONT'S PRODUCTION OF "INTO THE WOODS"

Excitement is building in Edgemont for the high school’s annual spring musical, which this year will be “Into the Woods” to be performed March 3-5 at the high school auditorium — and tickets, which must be purchased this year online, are already going fast.

This year’s show, featuring a cast of 16 talented students from all four high school grades, is being produced and directed by 23-year old Danny Bernstein, who last year directed Edgemont’s award-winning production of “Urinetown.”

Mr. Bernstein, a 2010 Edgemont graduate, is a professional musical theater playwright and composer, whose original musical “Far from Canterbury” last summer won best musical at the New York International Fringe Festival. Mr. Bernstein also performed this past November at the White House.

Edgemont’s production of “Into the Woods” — sponsored in part by the PTSA’s Arts and Cultural Enrichment Subcommittee or ACE — may be unlike any version of the Sondheim classic that has ever been produced thus far on stage or screen.  Conceived by Mr. Bernstein, the show features an original set, original costumes and a unique concept in which, among other firsts, one of Edgemont’s most talented student musicians — an award-winning composer and performer in his own right — will play a key role.

Tickets for the show went on sale online earlier this week.  Tickets are $20 for the first performance Thursday night, March 3, which is a benefit for the Edgemont Scholarship Council, and $15 apiece for the shows on March 4 and 5.  Evening performances start at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, March 5, when there are two shows, the matinee will begin at 1 p.m.

The sale of tickets online this year is new, but allows everyone who wants a ticket to select the specific performance and individual seat assignment in the 300-seat auditorium. Even though the show is three weeks away, nearly 300 tickets have already been sold in only the first week, including more than half of the tickets available for the Saturday night performance.

To buy a ticket go to http://ehs-into-the-woods.eventbrite.com. To select your own seat you must order from a computer/laptop. Mobile phones do not allow seat selection (you will be assigned the best available seat). Also, Google Chrome is the best browser to use as Eventbrite is not supported by all browsers. Do make sure you are using the most up-to-date version of your browser.
