As a follow-up to our August 9, 2024 News Update, the Edgemont Community Council is excited to share that the Town of Greenburgh and Nunataks Ltd., the non-profit organization managing the Greenburgh Nature Center, have ratified a new long-term agreement ensuring the Nature Center will continue to thrive under Nunataks’ leadership through December 2050.
This renewed agreement marks a significant milestone in preserving and enhancing one of Edgemont and Greenburgh’s most cherished resources — a 33-acre haven of natural beauty just off Central Park Avenue that has been inspiring our community since 1975.
As a lifelong resident who treasures this unique asset of our community, I invite everyone to celebrate this milestone. The Greenburgh Nature Center isn’t just a place for wildlife; it’s a cornerstone of education, recreation, and connection for all ages. Home to over 100 animals, miles of scenic trails, and hands-on exhibits, the Nature Center offers endless opportunities to learn about and appreciate the natural world.
With this agreement now in place, the Nature Center is gearing up for its 50th-anniversary celebration in 2025. Plans are already underway to introduce even more innovative programs for all ages and make significant upgrades to the exhibits and grounds. These efforts will enhance the visitor experience and strengthen the Nature Center’s impact as a hub for environmental education and community connection.
Let’s continue to support the Greenburgh Nature Center as it evolves into an even greater resource for education, conservation, and community connection. Together, we can ensure that this living classroom, wildlife sanctuary, and gathering place remains a beacon of inspiration for decades more to come.
Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, Edgemont Community Council
