Greenburgh PD Seeks Student Applicants for Youth Court Class of 2024

The Greenburgh Police Department is seeking applicants for the Youth Court 8-Week Training Program. The Greenburgh Youth Court is a unique collaborative approach to help reduce juvenile crimes in a process that incorporates teens, victims, families, and the community in a new form of justice – one that assigns youth to make difficult decisions about delinquent behavior of our young people by carrying out the roles of Judge, Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys, Bailiff, Court Clerk, and Jurors.

All Youth Court Members undergo an intensive training program conducted by experienced Judges, Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys, Bailiffs, Court Clerks, and Police Officers.

Students presently in the 8th – 12th grade, are eligible to apply. Applicants must be willing to dedicate at least one evening per week, usually Wednesdays during the school year, and volunteer their time for special events and community activities. The 8-week training program will run from 5 PM to 7:30 PM between Wednesday, October 15, 2024, thru December 11, 2024 (Excluding Wednesday, November 27, 2024).

The application can be found here and is due Wednesday, October 15, 2024. The application can either be sent in advance or brought in person to the first training meeting. Questions can be directed to Teresa Robinson, Youth Court Secretary, at Gpdyouthcourt@greenburghny.com.
