The Greenburgh Town Board, at its January 24th, 2024 meeting, adopted a resolution (PO 2 – 1/24/2024) that designated a portion of Old Army Road as a school zone and reduced the posted maximum speed limit from 25mph to 20mph from 7am to 6pm on school days. The new school zone designated stretches Old Army Road from Central Park Ave to White Oak Lane.
This safety improvement was the result of advocacy efforts led by the Edgemont Community Council and its Traffic, Sidewalk, and Safety Committee, recently renamed the ECC Public Safety Committee. After meeting with representatives from the ECC, the Greenburgh Police Department recommended to the Town Board that this stretch of Old Army Road be designated a school zone because it is a heavily trafficked pedestrian corridor often used by school children traveling to and from Edgemont High School. The Town Board accepted this recommendation.
The Edgemont Community Council thanks the Greenburgh Police Department, the Greenburgh Town Board, and especially the Commanding Officer of the Greenburgh Police Department Traffic and Safety Unit Sgt. Benjamin Fontanelles, for their continued partnership in making Edgemont a safer place for all residents.
Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, The Edgemont Community Council
