Greenville Fire District Awarded $399,836 FEMA Flood Mitigation Grant

The Edgemont Community Council is proud to share that the Greenville Fire District has been awarded a $399,836.27 FEMA Flood Mitigation Grant to address the long-standing and worsening flooding issues at the firehouse caused by Troublesome Brook.

As many residents know, the firehouse is located along a flood-prone section of the brook, which has seen increased overflow in recent decades due to local development, aging infrastructure, and changing climate patterns. Floodwaters have regularly overtopped the brook’s banks, entering the rear of the firehouse and causing extensive damage to the lower level — at times reaching depths of up to four feet. Despite some improvements made by the Town in surrounding areas, the flooding has continued to disrupt operations and place financial strain on the Fire District.

In response, the Greenville Fire District compiled years of documentation and photographic evidence and worked closely with FEMA to apply for federal assistance. The resulting 406 Flood Mitigation Grant, awarded in May 2025, represents a major step forward in protecting this critical public safety facility and ensuring uninterrupted emergency response for the Edgemont community.

We congratulate the Greenville Fire District and thank the Fire District professional staff for its diligence in securing this important funding. We also thank FEMA for recognizing the urgency of this issue. The Edgemont Community Council will continue to advocate for long-term infrastructure solutions that protect both residents and essential services.
