Help Mentor an Edgemont High School Senior Through the Senior Options Program

Dear Edgemont Neighbors,

The Edgemont School District is seeking community members who may be willing to host or mentor a graduating senior through the district’s Senior Options program.

Senior Options is a long-standing Edgemont tradition in which seniors spend the final four weeks of high school — approximately mid-May through mid-June — engaged in internships, independent studies, or creative projects that connect their education with real-world experiences. In recent years, the program has expanded and is now required for all graduating seniors, increasing the need for community placements.

To help meet this demand, the district is asking community members who hold supervisory roles in businesses, nonprofits, government offices, or other organizations to consider hosting a student for this short-term experience.

Placements can take many forms and might include:
⮚ Allowing a student to shadow meetings or observe work
⮚ Introducing them to your industry or organization
⮚ Providing small projects or tasks during the placement
⮚ Offering general guidance or mentorship

Placements generally follow the equivalent of a school week, approximately 30 hours per week, though schedules can be arranged in ways that work for both the host and the student.

Placements do not need to be formal internships. In many cases, simply allowing a student to observe how work gets done and participate in small ways can provide valuable exposure to a professional environment.

Students generally apply to placements independently and arrange their own interviews, allowing hosts to select candidates who may be the best fit. Placements may be in-person, remote, or hybrid, depending on the nature of the work and the host organization.

If you or someone you know might be interested in hosting a student, please consider completing the interest questionnaire by Wednesday, March 25: https://tinyurl.com/EdgemontSeniorOptions2026

Thank you for supporting Edgemont’s students and helping make this meaningful program possible.

Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, The Edgemont Community Council
