Ten Nominees to Interview with SBNC

This year the School Board Nominating Committee (SBNC) has done an outstanding job seeking qualified individuals to sit on the Edgemont Board of Education. Scores of people were approached and many of those individuals seriously considered the option up until yesterday’s deadline, leaving the committee with qualified and interested residents for the next few years. The SBNC also received letters of nomination from the community at large in response to the ECC’s “Call for Nominations” letter mailed to residents’ homes in December.

At last night’s public session (January 17th) the SBNC accepted letters of nomination for ten individuals to fill the three upcoming vacancies on the Edgemont School Board. Those individuals nominated were:
Mariquita Blumberg
Denise deGuzman
Jennifer DeMarrais
Michael Goldstein
Jay Jacobson
Nilesh Jain
Christopher Judge
Christopher Knopp
Pamela Montgomery
Ben Tanen

The SBNC accepts these letters of nomination and appreciates the willingness of all ten nominees to serve the Edgemont community and its schools.

As explained in the “Call for Nominations” letter two of these vacancies will be created by the expiration of the terms of office for Ms. Jennifer Darger and Dr. Brian Yarrington and will expire June 30, 2021. In addition, Mr. Kenneth Orce resigned from the Board in July 2017 for personal reasons, creating a third vacancy. This vacancy was temporarily filled in August by Michael Bianchi, a former Board of Education trustee. A replacement for Mr. Orce will be elected for the remaining one year of a three-year term which expires in June 30, 2019. In the general election on May 15, 2018 the two candidates who receive the most votes will receive one of the two 3-year terms, and the candidate who receives the 3rd most votes will receive the one-year term.

The SBNC seeks comment from Edgemont residents concerning all of the nominees. Comments should be submitted by March 1st in writing to Lisa Decker, SBNC Chair, 80 Edgemont Road, Scarsdale, NY 10583, or via email at EdgemontSBNC@gmail.com. Comments must be attributable (anonymous comments will not be accepted) and will be kept confidential within the SBNC.
