Town of Greenburgh Planned Hydrant Flushing in Edgemont Neighborhoods (8/18–9/18)

Dear Edgemont Neighbors,

As a follow-up to our July 9, 2025, message, I am writing to share an important information from the Greenburgh Water Department regarding additional upcoming hydrant flushing here in Edgemont. This maintenance is scheduled to take place from Monday, August 18th, through Thursday, September 18th, 2025, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

This flushing is part of the Town’s regular maintenance program to ensure all fire hydrants are functioning properly and to help remove sediment that can build up in the water distribution system. While this work is necessary and important for maintaining water quality and emergency preparedness, it may cause temporary water discoloration and reduced water pressure in some areas.

The discoloration you may notice consists primarily of harmless silt and air and does not affect the safety of the water. However, residents are advised to check that their water is clear before doing laundry, as discolored water may cause staining. If your water becomes discolored, you can usually clear the pipes in your home by running cold water faucets for a few minutes. We also suggest keeping a small supply of clear water refrigerated for drinking and cooking.

Hydrant flushing will affect the following neighborhoods and the roads surrounding hydrants in these areas:

Greenridge Neighborhood
Old Colony Road, Fisher Street, Midvale Road, Club Way, and Scarsdale Golf Course.

Northern Greenville Neighborhood
Healy Avenue and Central Park Avenue.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Greenburgh Water Department at 914-989-1900 or visit https://www.greenburghny.com/214/Water-Sewer-Department for additional information.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as this essential maintenance is completed.

Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, Edgemont Community Council
