Dear Edgemont Neighbors,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the summer season.
I’m writing to share an important notice from the Greenburgh Water Department regarding upcoming hydrant flushing here in Edgemont. This maintenance is scheduled to take place from Thursday, July 10 through Tuesday, July 22, 2025, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Flushing is expected to begin in the Longview & Fort Hill Neighborhoods, followed by Southern Greenville, Northern Greenville, a return to the Longview Neighborhood, then continuing through Cotswold, Old Edgemont, Central Park Avenue, and concluding in the Greenridge Neighborhood.
This flushing is part of the Town’s regular maintenance program to ensure all fire hydrants are functioning properly and to help remove sediment that can build up in the water distribution system. While this work is necessary and important for maintaining water quality and emergency preparedness, it may cause temporary water discoloration and reduced water pressure in some areas.
The discoloration you may notice consists primarily of harmless silt and air and does not affect the safety of the water. However, residents are advised to check that their water is clear before doing laundry, as discolored water may cause staining. If your water becomes discolored, you can usually clear the pipes in your home by running cold water faucets for a few minutes. We also suggest keeping a small supply of clear water refrigerated for drinking and cooking.
Hydrant flushing will affect the entire Edgemont community, including the following neighborhoods and the roads surrounding hydrants in these areas:
