Youth Leadership Opportunity: Represent Westchester County on the NYS Governor’s Youth Council

Dear Edgemont Residents,

I’m pleased to share an exciting leadership opportunity for local youth to help shape policy at the highest levels of our state government. The Westchester County Youth Bureau is currently seeking a youth representative to serve on the New York State Governor’s Youth Council for the 2025–2026 term.

This prestigious Council includes just one representative from each of New York’s 62 counties and provides a powerful platform for young people — ages 13 to 21 — to advocate for their peers and advise policymakers on critical issues affecting youth across the state.

Council members will participate in bi-monthly virtual meetings with peers from their region and statewide youth-led events. Topics of focus for the upcoming term include:
– Youth Mental Health
– The Impact of Social Media
– Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI)
– Environmental Impacts in Our Communities
– Youth Voice and Civic Engagement

Edgemont has a proud tradition of student leadership and civic participation. I strongly encourage eligible residents who are passionate about improving their community to consider applying. This is a unique opportunity to represent Westchester County and be part of shaping policies that affect youth throughout New York State.

The deadline to apply is May 19, 2025. More information and the application portal can be found on the NYS Governor’s Youth Council website. Questions may be directed to the Westchester County Youth Bureau at WCYB@westchestercountyny.gov or by calling 914-995-2745.

Thank you for helping to spread the word about this meaningful opportunity — and for continuing to support and inspire the next generation of Edgemont leaders.

Sincerely,
Dylan F. Pyne
President, Edgemont Community Council
