The Greenburgh Town Board, at its April 23, 2025 meeting, adopted a new resolution (linked below) that furthers the ECC’s public safety advocacy efforts outlined in our October 2023 Traffic and Safety Report and reinforced by ongoing community engagement.
Resolution PO-2–04/23/2025 lowers the speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour on ten residential streets in the Longview and Fort Hill neighborhoods: Clayton Road, Evandale Road, Glendale Road, Hearthstone Circle, Old Lane, Paradise Drive, Rock Hill Lane, Stonybrook Road, Sundale Place, and Underhill Road. This area, characterized by narrow, winding streets without sidewalks, presents particular risks for pedestrians and drivers alike.
This measure builds on the Edgemont Community Council’s progress made by earlier speed limit reductions adopted by the Town Board in February 2025 for other residential roads within the Longview and Southern Greenville neighborhoods, including Fort Hill Road. Fort Hill Road emerged as a key focus in our comprehensive 2023 traffic and pedestrian safety engagement process. Lowering the speed limit will not only create safer travel conditions but will also redirect GPS-reliant drivers toward roads more suited for higher speeds and heavier traffic. In August 2024, the ECC conducted a community-wide survey on this proposal, and 76% of respondents supported it.
The Edgemont Community Council strongly advocated for this latest speed limit reduction and appreciates the thoughtful evaluation conducted by the Greenburgh Police Department Traffic Unit, as well as the Town Board, Town staff, and Greenburgh Police Department’s continued commitment to public safety and partnership with the ECC. We also extend our thanks to the residents who have consistently shared their perspectives and helped guide these important safety improvements.
