ECC Seeks Residents to Serve on the School Board Nominating Committee Beginning in September 2026

The Edgemont Community Council (ECC) is seeking members for next year’s School Board Nominating Committee (SBNC).

What is the SBNC?

Established in 1935, the SBNC is composed of Edgemont residents from across all eight Edgemont neighborhoods. Committee members identify, recruit, interview, and recommend candidates for the annual elections of the Edgemont Union Free School District Board of Education. The SBNC process minimizes divisive and costly campaigns, deters single-issue candidates, and helps maintain a highly qualified, nonpartisan school board dedicated to excellence in education and financial stewardship. The SBNC has been instrumental in maintaining the strong reputation of Edgemont’s school district.

What’s involved?

SBNC members are expected to:

⮚ Attend five to seven in-person committee meetings between October and March
⮚ Participate in one to four days of interviews in March, depending on the number of nominees
⮚ Attend at least three Board of Education meetings between September and March
⮚ Assist in the identification and recruitment of potential nominees
⮚ Serve for two years

Who’s eligible?

To qualify for membership on the SBNC, a resident shall have lived in the Edgemont School District for at least three years as of April 29, 2026, and shall not be the spouse, parent, sibling, child, sibling of a parent, or child of a sibling of a current School Board member or SBNC member.
