UPDATE: Water Main Break – 825 Central Park Avenue

Dear Edgemont Neighbors,

Despite assurances of improved communication following January’s water main break, the ECC received no direct communication from Supervisor Feiner regarding this incident. Yesterday afternoon, the Supervisor initially advised residents that water should be restored “in about an hour.” With service disruptions continuing this morning, the ECC has gathered the following updates to share with the community:

–Water service is expected to be restored to all residents by noon today, if not sooner. The Water Department is replenishing the water tank following the break at 825 Central Park Avenue. Residents may experience low water pressure as the system gradually returns to normal.
–Supervisor Feiner advises residents to assume they should boil water once service returns unless the Town advises otherwise. He stated that the Town has not yet consulted the County Health Department, but it will.
-The Town advises residents experiencing discolored water to run cold water in the bathtub until it clears, for a maximum of 15 minutes.

We thank the Water Department, DPW, Greenville Fire, and all personnel working to restore service.

The ECC also renews the requests outlined in our February 3 open letter to Supervisor Feiner: timely, consistent updates across email, text, robocalls, and social media; clear public health guidance; realistic restoration estimates; and direct, structured coordination with the ECC, schools, fire district, and other key stakeholders. Residents also need an emergency notification system that is easy to join and reliable, and access to water and warming centers when circumstances warrant.

These concerns were clearly documented after January’s prolonged outage, yet residents have received no meaningful update on corrective action, and this latest incident exposes the same failures. Promises of better communication are not enough. Residents deserve concrete improvements, clear accountability, and an emergency communication plan that works when it is needed.

We will continue to share updates as information becomes available.
