Westchester County today announced that Bee-Line bus service in Edgemont will be expanded to include more rush hour commuter buses between Longview Drive and the Scarsdale Train Station. The announcement was made earlier today by county executive Rob Astorino.
Effective March 30, 2015, there will be one weekday morning and evening trip added to the No. 65 bus in order to meet later trains at the Scarsdale train station.
County Legislator MaryJane Shimsky (D-Hastings-on-Hudson), who represents Edgemont, released the following statement today in regard to the announced service changes to the County’s Bee-Line bus system:
“I am pleased that the Longview neighborhood in Edgemont will now have additional rush hour bus service to the Scarsdale train station. Last year I advocated for this increase in service because of the lack of parking at the train station, and the growing demand in Edgemont for mass transit. The new bus service will decrease traffic on busy roads, which will make commuting hours easier—and safer—for everyone.
“I would like to thank the County’s Department of Transportation staff, the Bee-Line bus operators and the Astorino Administration for promptly addressing the needs of Edgemont residents in this matter.”
The No. 65 bus serves commuters in Edgemont who live on the Greenville side of Central Avenue. During rush hour it runs in a loop from the Scarsdale Train Station to Underhill Road and Central Avenue, to Highland Road and Longview Drive, to Ardsley Road and Central Avenue, and back to the Scarsdale Train Station.
Earlier this year, Edgemont commuters who use the bus signed petitions demanding that service be expanded. Legislator Shimsky used the petitions to advocate for the expansion of the bus line service.
