Dear Edgemont Residents,
The Greenburgh Public Library is vital to the fabric of our community. At a time when libraries — and the freedom to read, learn, and be exposed to a wide range of perspectives — are being challenged across the nation, our Library stands as one of our most important civic institutions. It is more than a building with books; it is a place where neighbors connect, children discover a love of learning, and residents of all ages can access information, resources, and programs that enrich civic life.
To keep this institution strong and reflective of our shared values, we need engaged residents of unincorporated Greenburgh to step forward and serve on the Greenburgh Public Library Board of Trustees. This is a meaningful opportunity to help guide a public institution that serves thousands of families in our community.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing library operations, setting long-term goals, shaping policy, reviewing finances, and supporting personnel decisions. Trustees also participate in committees such as Finance, Facilities, and Personnel and play a key role in ensuring the Library remains responsive, welcoming, and future-focused.
The Greenburgh Public Library is an educational corporation chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. Trustees receive online training to understand their responsibilities and are supported in meeting all state and local requirements, including the Town of Greenburgh Code of Ethics.
The Library Board meets in person on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM. Meetings are open to the public, and trustees are encouraged to be visible advocates for the Library and its mission within the broader community.
If you care about civic life, value public access to knowledge, and believe in strengthening institutions that bring people together, I encourage you to consider serving.
To learn more or be considered, please send a brief letter of interest and resume to cdeitchman@greenburghlibrary.org.
Now is the time to step up — our public institutions are only as strong as the neighbors who support them.
Sincerely,
Dylan Pyne
President, The Edgemont Community Council
