At its meeting on March 17, 2026, the Edgemont School Board Nominating Committee (SBNC) voted to recommend Heather Stern and Suri Singh for election to the Edgemont Board of Education. Ms. Stern is an incumbent seeking a second term, and Mr. Singh is seeking a first term.
The SBNC process is designed to encourage qualified residents to make themselves available to serve on the school board and to implement a fair and judicious means for evaluating and recommending candidates. The nominating committee consists of residents from each of the community’s neighborhoods, as well as a student representative from Edgemont High School. The SBNC met throughout the year, attended school board meetings, and gathered input from the community to ensure a comprehensive and thoughtful process.
Heather Stern is completing her first term on the Edgemont Board of Education and is seeking re-election. During her three years of board service, she has strengthened the district’s governance practices by collaborating to formalize goal setting, modernize the superintendent evaluation process, and introduce the Board’s first self-evaluation cycle. She has also supported a shift toward more strategic, multi-year financial planning and expanded communication with the community.
A resident of Edgemont for over a decade, Heather and her husband are the parents of two children in the district. Prior to serving on the Board, she was actively involved in the PTA, including roles as treasurer, class parent, and Picture Day chair.
Heather holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and previously worked as a consultant advising federal government clients. She brings a thoughtful, analytical approach to her work and is committed to collaborative, student-centered decision making that supports the long-term strength of the district.
Suri Singh is a dedicated educational leader with nearly two decades of experience in public education, currently serving as principal of the Bronx’s Pathways to Graduation program, where he has overseen upwards of eighteen school sites for over eleven years. His extensive career spans roles as a secondary mathematics teacher, a middle school assistant principal, and a coach in New York City’s Alternative Schools District supporting highly complex educational environments.
Holding advanced degrees in educational leadership and adolescent education alongside a School District Leader Certificate, Suri combines a strong academic foundation with a people-centered, collaborative leadership approach. An engaged Edgemont resident for over six years, he has actively served the community through the Edgemont School Board Nominating Committee and local volunteer work. Suri and his wife of eighteen years are the proud parents of two daughters currently attending Edgemont schools, giving him a valuable dual perspective as both a seasoned professional educator and an invested parent deeply committed to the district’s continued success.
