Dear Edgemont Neighbors,
The Greenburgh Police Department is once again seeking applicants for its Youth Court 7-Week Training Program. The Greenburgh Youth Court is a unique collaborative approach to helping reduce juvenile crime, bringing together teens, victims, families, and the community in a youth-centered justice process. Youth Court members take on roles including Judge, Prosecutor, Defense Attorney, Court Officer, Court Clerk, and Juror.
All Youth Court members undergo intensive training conducted by experienced judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, court officers, court clerks, and police officers. Students currently in grades 8–12 are eligible to apply and must be willing to volunteer at least one evening per week, usually Wednesdays during the school year, as well as for special events and community activities.
This year’s seven-week training program will run on Wednesdays from 5:00–7:30 p.m., October 21 through December 16, 2026, with no training on November 11 (Veterans Day) or November 25 (Thanksgiving week).
As someone who grew up in Edgemont and proudly served in the Greenburgh Youth Court as both a Defense Attorney and later a Judge, I can personally attest to the value of this program and strongly encourage interested students to apply.
The application can be found here and is due Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Applicants are also asked to submit a copy of their most recent report card, a 200-word essay explaining why they would like to become a member of Youth Court, and two letters of reference.
